Router

The idea of ‘Router’ was first realized in the year 1972 by a group of network researchers called ‘International Network Working Group’. They formed a committee later that year called ‘International Federation for Information Processing’. Their main purpose was to discuss various technical issues concerning interconnectivity of the various networks. It was their determination and hard work that resulted in the first ever functioning router called ‘Interface Message Processor’ (IMP). They were the very first routers that formed a working information exchanging network. These IMP’s were used to connect two unlike networks. And they had no means of determining the fastest way of delivering the information which means the whole reliability of the system was dependent upon the host. But since then routers have changed a lot!
